Cannon Bishop, a junior at Shadow Ridge High School, is a dedicated and accomplished varsity athlete in both track and cross country. Competing at the varsity level for all three years of his high school career, Bishop consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and determination to improve, both on and off the track.
Bishop shared, “I started running in 5th grade, and I‘ve always liked the consistency that pays off with faster times and new PRs.”
His early start in the sport helped him develop not only physical strength but also the discipline required to succeed at a high level.

From a young age, Bishop showed natural talent and passion for running. In eighth grade, he ran an impressive 4:51 mile—fast enough to meet the 5A high school qualifying standard. This accomplishment set the tone for his high school career. Now, as a junior, Bishop has lowered his mile time to 4:33, proving his steady improvement and commitment to pushing his limits. His progression reflects countless hours of training, perseverance, and focus.
Beyond individual success, Bishop values the experiences he’s had with his teammates.
He said, “One of my favorite memories about track is going on out-of-state trips with my teammates and winning state championships.” He continued, “Mount SAC Relays last year were my favorite memory. It was awesome to run on such a talented relay, and being around an atmosphere of elite runners was really inspiring.”
His teammates recognize the same dedication and positivity that Bishop brings to the team.
Fellow runner Ronin Belt said, “I do most of my runs with Cannon, and I enjoy running with him because the conversations are chill and fun. He always pushes me to be better and work harder.” Belt also added, “What makes him stand out is his work ethic and his willingness to push himself through challenges.”
Bishop continues to stay focused as the season progresses, always striving for improvement.
He said, “My goals for the rest of the season are to keep improving my times and qualify for state in my events.”
His determination to achieve these goals shows his competitive mindset and commitment to excellence.

In addition to athletic growth, Bishop believes track has helped him develop as a person.
He expressed, “Track has helped me grow as a person by helping me understand that if I put the team and other people before myself, I can achieve more.”
This team-first mentality highlights his leadership and maturity.
Looking ahead, Bishop plans to continue running and afterwards serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is grateful for the opportunities the sport has given him and reflects fondly on his journey so far. From intense practices in the heat to unforgettable out-of-state meets, Bishop appreciates every moment that has shaped him into the athlete and person he is today.
With his dedication, mindset, and passion for the sport, Cannon Bishop is set to continue making strides both on the track and in life.
