As the end of the school year approaches, seniors are preparing for the last summer before entering college and beginning a new journey. The countdown to graduation is getting shorter by the day. For some, it’s a moment filled with happiness and relief to be leaving high school while others may feel a wave of sadness due to change. For many seniors the end of the year feels exciting and emotional at the same time, creating a bittersweet ending to an important chapter of life.

Throughout the year, seniors experienced many memorable moments that made the year as a whole feel special. One of the earliest events was Senior Sunrise, where students gathered early in the morning to watch the sunrise together on the football field. The event gave seniors a chance to reminisce on all the memories made since freshmen year.
As graduation comes closer, college decisions, job applications, military plans, and future goals become daily things seniors talk about around campus. Despite being excited about the future, many students also realized how difficult it would be to say goodbye to close friends, favorite teachers, and familiar routines.
“It’s a mixture of exhaustion and euphoria. I’m happy about the year being over but after spending so much time to finish strong, I burnt myself out,” senior Mikael Johnson expressed.

Another major highlight was the most anticipated event of high school: prom. On April 15th at the Mob Museum, students dressed up, took pictures with friends and enjoyed the night. It was a night for juniors and seniors to relax and celebrate their hard work. For seniors specifically, it created memories that would be even more precious since it would be their final high school tradition with one another, making it all the more melancholic.
A little advice from senior Venice Nevine Velayo, “Everyone says this but don’t fall behind. If you do then communicate with your teachers, nine times out of ten they’re more understanding than you think and will compromise. By coming to them after class it shows that you care.”
Seniors who once entered high school nervous and uncertain are now preparing to step into adulthood. Many students have grown academically, socially, and personally during their time in school. Although graduation marks the end of one chapter it also opens the door to new adventures and opportunities, while leaving room for growth. Some seniors will attend college while others plan to begin careers, travel, or join the military. The end of the school year may be bittersweet, but it also represents achievement and the beginning of a new journey.
