The newest installment of the popular life simulation series, Tomodachi Life, has quickly become a favorite among students at Shadow Ridge High School.
Known for its quirky humor, endless customization, and unpredictable character interactions, the game allows players to create personalized “Mii” characters based on friends, family members, celebrities, or even fictional characters. Students say the game’s creativity and humor are what make it so entertaining.
Unlike many traditional video games that focus on competition or combat, Tomodachi Life centers around social interaction and storytelling. Players can design every detail of their Miis, including their appearance, personality, voice, clothing, and relationships.
Once created, the Miis live together on an island where they form friendships, argue, fall in love, and experience strange and hilarious situations.
Senior Alexa Salas said the freedom players have in the game is one of its biggest strengths. “I like Tomodachi Life for the amount of creativity you can put into it. Every aspect of the game is extremely customizable and anything can be created,” Salas said. She also explained that the interactions between characters make the game especially enjoyable. “Watching the little Miis interact is very whimsical and fun, especially if Miis get into drama,” she said.
The unpredictable nature of the game has become a major source of entertainment for students. Because each Mii develops relationships and reactions differently, no two players experience the exact same storyline.
Many students enjoy comparing the unusual events that happen in their islands, whether it is unexpected friendships, random arguments, or bizarre dream sequences.

Senior Judah Kilgore said he enjoys adding people he knows into the game and watching what happens.
“I like the game cause I get to have all my friends in there and see what weird things they get up to in there,” Kilgore said.
The game’s appeal comes from its balance of creativity and humor. Students can recreate their real-life friend groups while also creating completely ridiculous scenarios that would never happen in reality. The combination of customization, comedy, and social interaction has helped Tomodachi Life gain popularity among Shadow Ridge students.
As more students continue creating islands filled with classmates and friends, Tomodachi Life has become more than just a game. For many players, it is a fun and imaginative way to connect with friend
