For many students, high school is a time to explore hobbies and interests. For Junior Skyler Price, a simple interest in nail art quickly became something much bigger, a growing nail business built on creativity. Confidence, and connection with others.

Price first became interested in doing nails because of her artistic personality and love for creative activities. Nail art stood out to her as a fun way to express herself while also learning a valuable skill.
Price states, ¨I’m a very artsy person, and nail art always seemed like a fun creative outlet.¨
Price’s interest in nails was also much more personal, and has helped her break the habit of nail biting. Price has struggled with nail biting for years, and wearing fake nails has allowed her natural nail to grow.
At the same time, Price realized that regularly visiting the nail salon was becoming too expensive. Instead of continuing to spend money every few weeks, she decided to learn how to do her own nails.
Price officially began doing nails in January of this year. Only a month later, she started practicing with other people and slowly building her client base. In just four months, she has already gained experience working with clients while improving her skills and techniques.

Like many small business owners, Price faced challenges when first starting out. One of her biggest struggles was finding people willing to let her practice on them. Building confidence and improving skills takes time, especially in a hands-on business like nail services.
Price states, ¨Luckily, my friends and family supported my goals and let me do their nails, which helped me to greatly improve my technique and skill level to where I’m at today.¨
For Price, doing nails is about much more than simply painting or designing them. She loves to give clients a boost of confidence and create a positive experience for them. Whether it is a simple set or a detailed design, she enjoys seeing how happy clients feel after their appointments.
Price states, ¨My favorite part about owning a nail business is meeting new people and helping them feel their best. I’ve met so many amazing people and made such great connections with clients.¨
Currently, Price offers Gel-X nails and other gel services. Even though she is still early in her journey, she already has big goals for the future. After graduating, she plans to become officially licensed and continue doing nails throughout college.
