Around Shadow Ridge High School, senior Benjamin Mosley is making a name for himself by mixing his love for storytelling with his appreciation for the people around him. As a journalist for the school, Mosley found out that being a reporter is about way more than just writing articles.
For Mosley, the best part of the class hasn’t just been the stories, but the new people he met.
“Being the one asking the questions definitely helped me get to know some people that I never thought I would ever talk to. I got to talk to the staff person to person and not just teacher to student. It feels like I actually created relationships with people just by doing so.”
One of those people is Mrs. Rogers, his English teacher. Mosley thinks she deserves some recognition too.
“I wanted somebody to talk about how Mrs. Rogers, my English teacher, how she always has a bunch of fun projects for the class. I think she really has fun with her job so I believe that she should get an article of herself.”

Outside of English and journalism, Mosley says he has a solid support system that has been there since day one.
“One person I could always rely on when I’m in need is definitely Mrs. McCoy, Ms. Tai, and Mr. Nate. These three adults have always been there for me ever since freshman year and I thank them with all I can.”
Throughout his senior year, Mosley has learned a lot about being himself. He says the biggest lesson he’s learned is that it is totally fine to be his own person.
“Something that senior year helped me understand is the true genuine fact that it’s okay to stand out. In the real world everyone is different so by expressing your personality it takes you places you could never know of.”

This vibe is exactly how he wants to be remembered at Shadow Ridge.
“One thing I would want people to remember about me is that I want people to start being different from others. I like when people aren’t afraid to socialize and have true genuine conversations with others. I think it’s something that everyone should explore, and I want everyone to know that I’ll never be shy.”
Looking back on the last four years, Mosley says he wishes he would have jumped into the social scene even sooner.
“If I could go back to my earlier years in high school one thing I would do is make more friends, hangout, and have fun more often. I realized that the friends I have now are truly apart of me, they’re like my brothers and I can say I love my friends wholeheartedly.”
Now that graduation is coming up, Mosley is ready to see what else is out there. Even though he’s leaving a great life behind in Vegas, he’s hyped for the challenge of college.
“The one thing I’m most excited for is the test that I’m about to put myself through going to college. Having to move away from such a perfect life with my job, family, and love from my friends, I’m ready to see how my character actually handles real life problems. I’m also just excited to move away and make more life experiences and get to know life outside of Las Vegas.”
