After months of assignments, finals and stressful schedules, summer break gives high school students the chance to relax and enjoy everything Southern Nevada has to offer.
While many students spend their summers sleeping in or staying home to avoid the desert heat, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas provide countless opportunities for entertainment, adventure and community events throughout the season.
From concerts and cultural festivals to water parks and downtown attractions, students looking for something fun to do this summer will have no shortage of options.
Many popular locations around the city are especially busy during June and July as both locals and tourists search for ways to enjoy the summer months.
One of the most popular summer destinations is Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. Known for its giant LED canopy, live concerts and street performers, Fremont Street becomes a major gathering place during the summer.
Students can walk through the area with friends, listen to free live music and watch the nightly light shows. The area also hosts seasonal entertainment and special events throughout the summer months.

“I like going downtown during the summer because there’s always something happening,” senior Anastasia Hazel said. “Even if you don’t spend money, it’s still fun to walk around with friends and watch the live performances.”
Another popular attraction for students is AREA15, an immersive entertainment district filled with art installations, virtual reality experiences and interactive attractions. The location has become one of the most unique hangout spots in Las Vegas because it combines entertainment, technology and creativity all in one place.
Attractions like Omega Mart and other interactive exhibits give students something different from the usual mall or movie theater experience.
For students trying to escape the extreme summer heat, water attractions remain a favorite option. Facilities such as Desert Breeze Aquatic Facility allow residents to cool off while staying active during the hottest months of the year. Local pools and recreation centers often become gathering spots for teenagers looking to spend time outdoors without overheating.
Students interested in outdoor activities can also visit parks like Exploration Peak Park, where hiking trails and scenic views give locals a chance to enjoy nature despite the desert climate. While mornings and evenings are usually the best times to visit due to high temperatures, parks remain popular destinations for exercise, picnics and photography throughout the summer.
Las Vegas also hosts major summer concerts and festivals that attract large crowds every year.
According to recent event schedules, the city will feature fireworks shows throughout the summer alongside concerts, residencies and entertainment on the Las Vegas Strip.
Venues such as Las Vegas Festival Grounds and T-Mobile Arena continue to bring major artists and events to the city during summer break.
“Summer in Vegas can actually be really exciting if you take advantage of what’s around you,” junior Olivia Soard said. “There are concerts, festivals and places to explore almost every weekend.”
Other attractions like the Museum of Illusions, Las Vegas continue to grow in popularity among teens looking for fun photo opportunities and interactive experiences. Social media has also helped many students discover new places around the city that they may not have visited before.
Although temperatures in Las Vegas regularly climb above 100 degrees during the summer, students still have countless opportunities to make the most of their break.
Whether they choose to attend concerts, explore downtown attractions, visit pools or simply spend time with friends, summer in Las Vegas offers activities for nearly everyone. For many students, the season provides a chance to create memories and enjoy freedom before returning to campus in the fall.
