The sounds of splashing water, cheerful music, and excited voices filled the parking lot at Decatur Auto Wash on Saturday May 16, as the Varsity Cheer Team hosted a successful fundraiser car wash to raise money for nationals. 

Junior Varsity Cheerleader, Tatym Pfahler states, ¨The atmosphere was energetic, supportive, and full of school spirit throughout the day.¨

Friends, family members, and community supporters stopped by throughout the day to get their cars cleaned while supporting the athletes journey to compete on a national stage. By the end of the fundraiser, the team had raised around $1,000 toward travel, competition fees, and other expenses. 

From the moment the fundraiser began, the cheerleaders worked nonstop to attract customers and keep the event running smoothly. Team members stood on nearby street corners holding colorful signs and waving at passing cars to promote the event. The cheerleaders’ energy and enthusiasm quickly grabbed people’s attention, bringing a steady flow of vehicles into the car wash throughout the day. 

Pfahler states, ¨Even though it was hot and tiring, it was fun gettering to work together as a team.¨

Once customers arrived, the cheerleaders divided into different roles to keep everything organized. Some athletes sprayed down and scrubbed the cars, while others carefully dried them to leave a spotless finish. The teamwork displayed throughout the fundraiser reflected the same cooperation and dedication the athletes show during practices and performances.

In addition to washing cars, the team also sold drinks and snacks to supporters waiting for their vehicles. Customers could purchase cold beverages and quick treats while cheering on the athletes and contributing to the fundraiser.

The fundraiser was about more than just raising money. It also gave the team an opportunity to connect with the community and show appreciation for the support they receive throughout the season. Many customers shared words of encouragement and praised the athletes for their hard work and commitment. 

Pfahler states, ¨We´ve been working really hard to get to nationals so seeing the community support us means alot.¨

By the end of the fundraiser, the team’s hard work had clearly paid off. Raising around $1000 in a single day was a major accomplishment and showed the power of community support combined with dedication and team work. 

As the cheerleaders continue preparing for nationals, the Decatur Auto Wash fundraiser will remain an important milestone in their season. The event not only helped financially support the team but also strengthened team bonds and brought the community together in support of their journey.
