Junior Cameron Gazda is a part of Shadow Ridge’s Varsity Baseball Team, and for this young athlete baseball is not just a sport but his childhood.

Gazda was first introduced to the game, by his father, at just six years old. At first his baseball career was a fun way to bond with his family, but over the years it grew into a real passion built on hard work, and a love for the game.
Gazda states, “My dad got me into baseball because he wanted me to play with my brother. I have been playing since I was six years old.”
Gazda has grown to be a very versatile player, and can step anywhere on the field. Being a versatile player is very important because it can help an athlete get more playing time when others are hurt, and it’s a great way to improve your overall skill.
Gazda stated, “I play middle infield but I can ultimately play everywhere. Being versatile on the field is very important, but I enjoy playing middle fielder the most because you have to be very smart and have a lot of knowledge about the game while still making very quick decisions.”
Some of the most memorable moments in life come from sports, where hard work, teamwork, and competition turn ordinary games into unforgettable experiences.
Gazda stated, “My favorite highlight was going to Utah and playing American Fork, a highly ranked team in Utah and having a solid game as a team and coming out with the win.”
Preparation is a key part of Gazda’s success, both mentally and on the field. His variations of different warmups give the athlete a balanced approach that keeps him both relaxed and game ready.
Gazda states, “Mentally before a game I listen to slow music because it calms my nerves and physically I play hacky-sac with my teammates and I stretch very well to prevent injuries.”
Physically his routine helps him loosen up and connect with the team, while stretching ensures his body is ready. His mental warmup helps him get in the right mindset and focus.

Looking ahead Gazda has clear goals for the rest of the season. As a team the focus is making playoffs, and pushing as far as possible. Personally he aims high, and hopes to reach his goal of 20 hits, stealing 10 bases, and maintaining a perfect feilding record.
From playing with his brother in the backyard, to competing against top ranked teams, Gazda’s baseball journey is still unfolding. With determination, grit, and a strong team the young athlete is ready to make the season count.
