The ESPYs is an award show that recognizes outstanding athletic achievement, leadership, and sportsmanship across all programs here at Shadow Ridge High School and specifically for student-athletes who strive to inspire a culture of pride, unity, and commitment both on and off the field. Through this event, hard work and accomplishments that define Shadow Ridge’s athletic legacy are highlighted.

“Over the past seven years, the ceremony has grown significantly in both scale and quality,” Mrs. Williams states. “We have expanded the number of award categories and incorporated professionally recorded segments in collaboration with our video production team. The event has been hosted at a variety of venues, elevating the overall experience, and we introduced elements such as a red carpet with a step-and-repeat backdrop to create a more formal atmosphere. In addition, we have enhanced our graphics, organized professional photo shoots for nominees, and added events like an off-site coaches dinner. It has truly been a learning process each year, and I have enjoyed the challenge of continuing to improve and evolve the program.”
It is important to recognize athletes in this way because they deserve to have their hard work, dedication, and achievements celebrated. Student-athletes invest a tremendous amount of time and effort into their schoolwork and sports.

Williams stated, “Planning for the ceremony begins in January with securing the event date and location. From there, the process becomes very detailed and collaborative. I reach out to community partners for donations to support student swag bags and coordinate with coaches to submit nominations. Invitations and tickets are created, and seasonal highlight slideshows are developed to ensure every sport is represented. I also work to secure a guest speaker, which is often one of the most challenging aspects, along with coordinating guest presenters.”
Many difficulties come with planning a large event like this. When it involves so many people and coordination, problems come up, but it is important to get them resolved quickly so they do not put delays into the planning process.

“Additional steps include organizing a coaches’ nomination meeting, managing the voting process, contacting nominees, distributing tickets, ordering awards, and finalizing the guest list,” Williams explains. “At the same time, I design the event program and build the full presentation, incorporating names, photos, videos, sponsors, and other special elements. It is a comprehensive process that requires strong organization, communication, and attention to detail to bring everything together successfully.”
The small details are what makes or breaks the overall outcome. This event provides a meaningful opportunity to honor that commitment. It also brings together all teams, allowing athletes, coaches, and families to see and appreciate the accomplishments across the entire athletic program.
Sophomore Aubrie Bush says, “This will be my second year working at the ESPYs. Last year, it was really fun and cool to be able to see everyone’s accomplishments.”
Many people work together to make it happen. This shared experience helps build a stronger sense of community and pride throughout the school and puts Shadows’ best athletes in one room to celebrate and acknowledge their wonderful accomplishments.
