With earning back-to-back state championship titles from the past two years, and a continuous winning streak this season, Shadow Ridge’s flag football team has been ranked #1 in Nevada, according to Nevada Preps!

Holding such an astounding title, this team of Mustangs combines cooperation and hard work to claim success on the field. These student athletes continue to bring their all to every single game and practice, as they work hard to gain success.

Flag football assistant coach, Erik Pack explains, “Us coaches can create plays, but these athletes are able to execute the plan with utmost precision. These athletes manage to communicate with each other well, and they are all confident in each other’s abilities. They trust each other to execute plays in games, which has helped lead to the team’s overall success. The coaching staff also works together very well, and we have tremendous faith in our athletes’ abilities.”

This team has immense support radiating throughout its athletes, coaches, and the community it has managed to build at Shadow Ridge. This support factor has allowed for such groundbreaking achievements made in Shadow Ridge sports history. Every mistake and move made on the field has contributed to how far these players have come.

Head coach, Matthew Nighswonger expresses, “These girls are very selfless, especially on the field. They always incorporate teamwork and cooperation into their games, and are constantly working to better both themselves and their fellow teammates. Throughout this season, many of our athletes have been able to contribute to the team’s success, even while playing different positions.”

These athletes and coaches are constantly working together, and have built relationships based on mutual growth and support for one another. Maintaining such a strong bond has been the base of this team’s success, leading them, as a team, through even the hardest of times.

Coach Pack states, “Under head coach Nighswonger, the development of the flag football program at Shadow Ridge has really been a labor of love for all of the assistant coaches, and everyone who has been involved. The overall commitment to the team’s success has been immeasurable. We are dedicated to success at every level, as well as assisting each athlete to improve their skills to the utmost of their abilities,” Coach Pack adds.” The program’s success is a result of a shared commitment  of not only the coaches, but the athletes themselves.”
