Junior Max Trenholm has carved out a unique place for himself on the Track and Field team, balancing explosive power with a commitment to constant improvement.
As a competitor in discus, shot put, and even the 100-meter dash, Trenholm represents a blend of strength and speed that is not always common among throwers. Despite only a few years in the sport, his steady development has already begun to show results.
Trenholm’s journey into track and field started with a simple goal that quickly turned into a passion.
“I joined track because I wanted to stay active and try something different from football,” Trenholm explained. “Throwing stood out to me because it matched my strength and power.”
What began as curiosity soon evolved into a focused pursuit of improvement, with each season bringing measurable progress.
One of the biggest appeals of throwing events for Trenholm is the tangible sense of achievement. Unlike some sports where improvement can feel abstract, throwing provides immediate feedback.
“I like the feeling of launching something as far as I can and seeing my progress,” Trenholm said.
That combination of physical effort and visible results keeps him motivated, along with the camaraderie of his teammates. The throwing group, he notes, thrives on competition and encouragement, constantly pushing each other to reach new distances.
However, success in throwing events does not come easily. Trenholm is quick to point out that technique is everything.
“The hardest part is staying consistent with technique because one small mistake can mess up the whole throw,” he said.
This attention to detail requires patience, something he has had to develop over time. Perfecting footwork, timing, and release angles is a process that demands repetition and focus.
A typical practice reflects that dedication. Trenholm and his teammates begin with warm-ups and drills before moving into technical work for discus and shot put. Strength training and conditioning follow, ensuring that athletes build the power and speed necessary to compete at a high level.

This season, Trenholm has placed particular emphasis on refining his form and improving his explosiveness. He has also taken on the added challenge of improving his sprinting ability in the 100-meter dash, showcasing his versatility as an athlete.
Support from teammates plays a crucial role during competitions. According to Trenholm, the energy within the group makes a significant difference.
“My teammates hype me up before throws and give me advice after each attempt,” Trenholm said. “We always encourage each other to do better and stay locked in.” That shared commitment helps create an environment where athletes can perform at their best.
Looking ahead, Trenholm hopes to continue building on his progress and reaching new personal records.
With his determination and mindset, Trenholm is proving that success in track and field is not just about strength, it’s about persistence, discipline, and the willingness to keep improving.
