Freshman Moriah Joshua is a very outstanding student at Shadow Ridge. She is a very talented athlete who plays on the girls’ softball team. Even though high school can be tough, Joshua works hard to be a great teammate and a strong player. She is known for being able to do many different jobs on the field, which makes her a “utility player.” This means she can play in many different spots to help her team win.
One of the coolest things about Joshua is that she can both pitch and play in the outfield. When she is a pitcher, she has to stay very focused and throw the ball with a lot of power. When she is in the outfield, she has to run very fast to catch fly balls. She is also a great hitter. During her games, she has even hit “triples,” which is when a player hits the ball and runs all the way to third base before the other team can get them out. That takes a lot of speed!
“I believe she will go far if she keeps up the great work” says sophomore Mariah Scott.
Being a Mustang at Shadow Ridge is a big deal, Joshua and her teammates practice a lot after school to get better. They learn how to work together, follow the rules, and show good sportsmanship. Joshua even goes to extra hitting lessons to make sure she can help her team score runs. She is part of the “Class of 2029,” which means she has a few more years to keep getting better and better at her sport.

“She is a very confident and amazing friend to have,” says sophomore Leyah Scott.
For Moriah, softball is where she shines the most. Joshua shows that if people practice hard and stay positive, they can do great things. Her teachers and coaches are very proud of how she handles her schoolwork and her sports at the same time. This is called being a “student-athlete,” and it is a great way to make friends and learn how to be a leader.
As Joshua keeps playing for the Mustangs, many people will be watching to see her hit more home runs and make great plays. She is a great example of how kids can follow their dreams by working hard every single day. Whether she is in the dugout cheering for her friends or on the field making a big play, Moriah Joshua is a star at Shadow Ridge High School!
