The end of the year is coming, and the seniors are feeling the drag. Luckily, for all the seniors out there, an awesome event is coming up! Grad walk! Thursday April 23rd will be the first day that the seniors receive their caps and gowns! The seniors will have an absolutely fun time where they walk all around the school to recollect the memories they made, the good ones and the bad ones.
Assistant Principal Karissa Guthre said, “Grad walk is our annual event that is our day that the seniors all get their caps and gowns. Parents are invited to come onto campus and the seniors do a walk through campus led by the band in their caps and gowns. The parents can take pictures. It’s a whole big fun event for the parents to see their seniors in their caps and gowns for the first time. And then the seniors walk all around the campus and it’s kind of a fun filled day.”
A lot of work goes into making Grad Walk happen; people in the office, the senior class, Mrs. Coyle, and the student council all have a role to play. Mr. Hartley and the band are vital in leading the grads around the school as they strut their stuff.
Another reason for why Grad Walk is such an amazing day is because not only is it the first day they get their caps and gowns, but it is also the first day parents can see their students dressed for graduation.

Brinn Gagon, a 2025 graduate from Shadow Ridge High School, reflected, “It was very exciting to walk through the halls with the other graduates! Being able to see the teachers and friends who had helped get to that point was so fun and special. It really made all the hard work worth it hearing everyone cheering. It was a mixture of relief and pure joy to finally have my cap and gown and be able to say that I made it! I was so proud of myself and all my friends too when we got to put on the cap, gown and medals. It really got me excited for the actual graduation ceremony, and I couldn’t wait to see what the future would hold.”
With one more month until Grad Walk, and one more month until graduation, seniors have every reason to be excited to finish their high school experience strong.
