Sophomore Audrey Luth is a newcomer running hurdles here at Shadow Ridge during the Track and Field season. Hurdles are a fun aspect of doing track that she does and competes in for fun.

“I decided to do hurdles this year because I was tall, and people told me that I’d be good at it,” continued Luth. “I thought it could be fun to do and after the first practice, I absolutely fell in love with it.
Other students told Luth that she would be a great hurdler. She was unsure at first, but decided to give it a shot and ended up loving it.
Luth stated, “I like that I get to meet new people, I like the coach, and I just like the general basics of how to overcome hurdles. I have definitely made some amazing friends while running hurdles and doing the warmups with my friends is probably my favorite part.”
Luth’s friends are a huge part of her love and dedication towards track and field. She has met some amazing people through this sport and is looking forward to working through the season.
Luth explained, “After I decided to run hurdles, I would be more excited to go to the track practices, and I looked extra forward to the season.”
Hurdles drove her passion towards track and developed her confidence in the sport. After running hurdles, she decided that it was definitely worth her hard work and long hours of practicing form and technique.
“My favorite part about Audrey as an athlete is that she will listen to what I coach her on, and immediately implements it,” says Coach Reed.

Her positive work ethic has helped her in more ways than she knows. Coaches and teammates look up to her both as an athlete and a person.
“Hurdles are different from regular running because obviously, there are hurdles while you’re running that you have to jump over instead of just straight sprinting, so you have to use different techniques,” Luth states.
Hurdlers use technique, speed, and unlimited dedication when they really want to be a good hurdler. It is much different than running and sprinting, hurdles add a brand new aspect into track and field that Luth enjoys so much.
“I’m hoping that she is able to get some competitive times to potentially go to state,” Reed states.
Coaches believe she is a good enough athlete to make it to state for hurdles and really hope that those goals are met.
