Sophomore Julie Steinman plays on the Junior Varsity Flag Football during the winter season at Shadow Ridge High School for fun and to get active with some friends. She has worked incredibly hard as a sophomore student-athlete to accomplish her big goals and earn a starting spot on the team.

“A lot of my friends were joining flag football, so I just tried out for fun, and I ended up being really good at it and made the JV team my freshman year,” says Steinman.
“I’m so excited about the season personally,” sophomore Koda Thacker explains. “I love playing games with her. She’s such a great player. She’s always there for everybody on the team, no matter how mean they can be. She’s always there for them.”
Steinman’s friends, such as Thacker love playing with her and are excited for the new season beginning with her. She is looked at as a caring and thoughtful person from many different perspectives.
Steinman states,“I like to run, so that’s just one of my strengths. So I am able to run down the field and catch the ball.”

Steinman recognizes her strengths and uses her speed to her advantage. She is also good at catching the ball, which makes a great player overall.
“I’ve definitely gotten a lot better at playing, and a lot of friends come from football,” Steinman explains. “Sometimes there can be a high competitive spirit because you have friends on the team that play the same position as you so you just work extra hard to get back out on the field and earn playing time.”
Having friends on a sports team always makes it more enjoyable and fun. She had friends trying out with her before joining the team last year and has made even more friends over the past two years.
Steinman expresses, “I’m learning how to play every position on offense so that I can earn more playing time. I definitely prefer playing safety or slot receiver, but running back or wide receiver are also fun positions.”

Her high goals are pushing her to strive towards success. Being a diverse player who plays all positions, or at least multiple different positions, is a versatile player and appreciated by coaches and teammates.
Thacker states, “My favorite part about playing with Julie is basically everything, I guess. I mean, there isn’t just one favorite part that I have about her. Anytime I step in, it fills me with joy, it’s just fun to start on. A lot of good things and fun times have been made with Julie both on and off the field.”
Julie is a fun person to be around and play with. Most people don’t have just one thing about her that they like because she is an amazing player and person. Julie is a hardworking, smart, and amazing student-athlete who loves the sport of flag football.
