Out with the old and in with the new. This year’s baseball team has a whole new field made fully of turf. This not only improves the look but also makes practice easier for the baseball team.
Head baseball coach William McCall states, “The new field is completely turf. The mound, outfield, infield, warning track, everything.”
The school’s old baseball field was rough, uneven, and messy. After each practice the team was responsible for raking and dragging the field. This was very time consuming for the coach and players, but with the new turf the field is very even.
These new fields are going to make a big difference because they will give athletes a more reliable and consistent place to practice and compete. Unlike grass, the turf doesn’t get muddy or damaged after rain.
The new turf fields also save a lot of water. Grass fields are unpredictable, and become dead quickly. However the new field gives shadow a more professional appeal.
McCall states, “The new fields will benefit the overall school community because I think it is going to make everything look better, and you do not have to water the field now so it will also save water.”
The upgraded surface makes the field look cleaner and more official. This gives the athletes a more professional and high-quality environment for athletes to develop in.
These new fields will also change the game for the players. Though it won’t impact the performance of players, the fields do create a faster game.

“Turf plays a lot faster than grass. When the ball hits the turf, it skips quickly. Also sliding is different! You have to slide earlier on turf,” stated McCall.
The smoother surface allows the team to focus on technique rather than uneven field conditions. Now it doesn’t matter what position athletes play, the grass will be the same everywhere.
This new arena will have a major positive impact on the baseball team by giving them a safer, more dependable, and high quality place to practice and play. With a more professional environment, players and coaches can focus on improving their skill.
The upgrade doesn’t just improve the field, it strengthens the entire program and supports the team’s success for years to come.
McCall states, “I have always said that the field should not ever impact the performance of our team. No matter where we are, we play hard. However this turf will give us a faster game and also save time for players and coaches.”
