The Shadow Ridge Dance Team of 2025, led by Coach Edith Ellithorpe, works hard to improve themselves as much as they can to perfect the art of expression. What audiences see on the gym floor or on the competition stage is only the final layer of a much deeper process, one built on discipline, creativity, and a shared commitment to telling stories through movement.
Coach Ellithorpe explains that this season has been focused on building both precision and confidence.
“We’ve pushed ourselves to take routines to a new level,” she said, emphasizing that the team has been working on sharper technique and stronger emotional performance.
Her point is clear the moment the dancers take the floor: the team doesn’t just perform choreography, they perform intention. Coach Ellithorpe added that when the dancers understand why every movement matters, the audience feels it too.
Team members agree that pushing themselves is simply part of the culture.
That mindset is more than just a daily goal, it reflects the bond that forms when a group learns to trust one another enough to grow. Rather than just repeating Coach Ellithorpe’s corrections, they’ve started taking ownership of their improvements, helping each other refine skills or master challenging counts. This collaborative atmosphere is what turns a group of individuals into a unified team.
Kaitlyn Woodard described the emotional side of performing. “When we dance, it’s like telling a story together.”
Instead of treating routines as technical checklists, the team thinks about what they want their audience to feel, whether it’s excitement, strength, or vulnerability. Coach Ellithorpe encourages that mindset by reminding them that dance is not just athletic but expressive. Practicing this type of performance has helped dancers step out of their comfort zones and become more confident on and off the floor.

The team also talked about how their bond has grown this season.
Mercedes Riddle said, “We’ve become like a family,” explaining that the trust built in practice translates directly into stronger performances.
When dancers rely on each other, literally and emotionally, their formations become cleaner, their expressions more genuine, and their timing more effortless. It’s the kind of dynamic that can’t be coached into existence; it has to be built through shared effort.
As they prepare for upcoming performances, the Shadow Stampede isn’t just focused on medals or rankings. Their goal is to continue refining their craft, supporting each other, and expressing something meaningful each time they step under the lights. With that combination of work ethic and passion, the team’s impact reaches far beyond the dance floor.
