Shadow Ridge High School’s Junior Varsity Women’s Basketball Team starts off their year with junior Makayla Brennan who has been with the Lady Mustangs since her freshman year. Brennan’s dedication and experience bring a unique dynamic to the team, making her a key player both on and off the court.
From the moment Brennan stepped onto the court as a freshman, she never wanted to get off. Her passion for basketball grew ever since. Brennan has shown a remarkable commitment to the team. Her passion for the game is evident in her relentless work ethic and her drive to improve her skills.
Over the years, she’s honed her abilities in both offense and defense, becoming a versatile player capable of contributing in multiple positions. Beyond her athletic talents, Brennan’s leadership qualities shine through, as she received an award for being the most improved player last season. Brennan, as one of the more experienced players on the JV squad, takes on the role of mentor and motivator, guiding her younger teammates and fostering a positive team environment.

“Don’t try it if you’re not going to give it all you can.” Brennan shares, “For there to be improvement you have to put in the work on your own time too not just at practice.”
Varsity basketball player, Jaden Williams, is a junior who has been practicing and training with Brennan. Williams pushes Brenna to strive for perfection and to never back down. He turns Brennan’s imperfections into lessons for her to better her skills and to achieve her goals. As Brennan continues to work hard and learn from those around her, she embodies the spirit of determination and teamwork with each practice and game, she grows closer to reaching her full potential, making her a player to watch in the seasons to come. Williams’ experience and skills have given Brennan extremely useful skills, helping her understand the layers of the plays and the ability to refine her strategies. Brennan’s commitment to improvement is evident in her rigorous training regimen, where she focuses on refining her shooting accuracy, enhancing her dribbling techniques, and building her overall court awareness.
“She’s a hard working person, loves to laugh and lift up teammates,” Williams shares. “She keeps the spirit up when they are low, a true definition of a real Mustang.”
