The Shadow Ridge High School Girls’ Basketball Team is poised for an impactful 2025-2026 season, entering the year with a blend of returning talent, experienced leadership, and the steadfast guidance of Head Coach Johnny Wheeler. Coming off a 2024-2025 season where they finished fourth in the competitive 5A Southern League and reached the state quarterfinals, the Lady Mustangs have their sights set firmly on a deep playoff run and the ultimate goal: a championship banner.
The Mustangs’ previous season laid a solid foundation, showcasing their ability to compete with Southern Nevada’s top teams. The team finished with a commendable 15-6 record and demonstrated significant grit in tight game situations. A key part of their success was the emergence of junior forward Jaslyn Jefferson, who averaged an impressive 17.4 points per game and earned a first-team All-5A Southern Nevada selection. Jefferson’s dominance in the paint and scoring ability make her a formidable presence and a central figure in the Mustangs’ offensive strategy last season. This is Jefferson’s last season, so she will have to make bold decisions and big moves.

“This season we have got to win,” states senior Chanel Gafeney.
Coach Johnny Wheeler, who has focused on fundamentals, defensive intensity, and a winning mindset since his arrival, returns to lead the squad. Known for his belief in his players’ commitment and drive, Wheeler is confident that this team possesses the heart required to leave everything on the court. This season, the team will continue to lean on a strong roster, including key returning players like seniors Danica Lindemann and Riley Faulconbridge, who add experience and depth to the backcourt.
The 2025-2026 team dynamic is a major strength, with players emphasizing their strong chemistry and trust in one another. Beyond Jaslyn Jefferson, the roster features a mix of returning upperclassmen and promising new talent ready to make an impact.
“We need to work hard on and off the court” states sophomore Neveah Trotchie.
Players, such as senior guard/forward Riley Faulconbridge and senior guard Danica Lindemann provide crucial experience and leadership. The Mustangs’ approach involves a collaborative effort, with different players ready to step up in critical moments. This shared responsibility and cohesive team environment sets the stage for a resilient performance throughout the demanding schedule.
The Mustangs’ 2025-2026 schedule includes a challenging mix of non-league and league matchups designed to test the team mentally and prepare them for the postseason. The goal remains consistent: to compete at the highest level and vie for a state championship in the 5A division.
The Shadow Ridge community is a vital part of the team’s support system, with fans expected to fill the stands and provide an energetic home-court advantage. As the season gets started, the Lady Mustangs are focused on continuous growth, both as individual athletes and as a unified team. Their journey this season is not just about wins and losses, but about leaving a lasting legacy for the program.
