Shadow Ridges’ girls basketball intramurals are in full swing as players gear up for the upcoming season. Many returning team members are eager to get back on the court, bringing energy and purpose to every game.
Alaijah Federly, a sophomore and guard, shared how much she missed playing this year.
“It feels amazing to be back on the court. I’ve really missed the energy, the competition, and just being with my teammates,” Federly expressed.
Federly emphasized that communication and teamwork are the main focus during intramurals.

“Our biggest focus has been communication and teamwork. We’ve been trying to really build chemistry early so everyone knows how to play off each other once the real season starts,” Federly states.
Playing together again in the intramurals has been beneficial.
Federly explained, “They’ve helped us get comfortable playing together again and finding out rhythm. It has also been a good chance to test different lineups and see what works best before we start official games.”
Federly has been working hard and been focusing on her defense and staying mentally focused.
“I’ve learned how important it is to keep my energy up even when I’m tired, and to lead by example,” Federly shares.
When describing her team’s chemistry, Federly states, “It’s honestly really good. We have some new players, including freshmen, but everyone’s connecting well and supporting each other. You can tell we’re building something special.”
Her personal goal for the season is to improve each game and become a reliable player.
“I want to help us make it as far as possible this season and enjoy every moment out there,” Federly said.
Federly also mentioned that her coach, Johnny Wheeler, keeps her motivated.
“His encouragement pushes us to be our best, especially when things get tough.”
Looking ahead, Federly is most excited about the competition.
“There’s a different kind of excitement once the lights are on and stands are full. It just makes me want to give my all every game,” Federly shared.
Meanwhile, Alexa Madsen, a sophomore power forward, is also ready for the season to start.
Madsen expressed her enthusiasm simply.
“I’m excited and ready to play.”
Madsen highlighted the importance of team bonding during intramurals.
“We’re working on our team connection and getting used to playing with everyone,” Madsen said.
Madsen believes that these practices that these practices improve team chemistry, which is already looking promising.
Madsen’s focus is on confidence.
“My confidence on the court has gotten stronger,” Madsen explained.
Madsen’s personal goal is to become a leader and increase her scoring.
“I want to be a leader on the court and to average more points,” Madsen said.
Madsen finds motivation in her teammates.
Madsen shares, “We all try to help each other.”
Finally, Madsen is most excited for the home games, where she can showcase the hard work she and her teammates have put in.
