Coach Ralph Fields serves as the head coach for the Shadow Ridge High School boys’ basketball team, a position he has held since the 2023-2024 season. In his time leading the Mustangs, Fields has worked to establish a culture of growth and consistency, guiding the team through competitive seasons in the 4A league.
Fields took over a program with a history of varying leadership, aiming to provide stability and a clear vision for the players’ development both on and off the court. His tenure began with a solid 14-10 record in his first year, followed by another 14-13 season in 2024-25, showing immediate positive impact on the team’s performance. These results demonstrate his ability to quickly implement effective strategies and foster a winning mentality.

“Coach always pushes us to do the best we can” says sophomore Jordan Carillo
One of the key aspects of Coach Fields’ coaching is a holistic approach to coaching that extends beyond the X’s and O’s of the game. He emphasizes the importance of individual growth within a group setting, working to find time for personal conversations while managing the logistical and administrative duties that come with being a head coach. This dedication to mentorship helps build well-rounded individuals, not just better athletes.
The current Shadow Ridge roster features a blend of experienced seniors and promising young talent, including his son, Troy Fields. This mix allows for a dynamic team environment where older players can lead and younger players can develop under the guidance of a dedicated coaching staff, which includes assistant coach Blake Major.
This team is all about trust to see if i can trust you to be on the team,” says Ralph Fields.
As the Mustangs look ahead, Coach Fields remains focused on continuous improvement and achieving new heights for the program. His leadership has helped cultivate a positive direction for Shadow Ridge basketball, and the community is eager to see the team continue to thrive under his guidance.
