Shadow Ridge High School sophomore, Connor Schilder, is back on the court and hungrier than ever. The Las Vegas native, now in his second year with the Mustangs basketball program, spent his entire off-season recovering from a broken arm, and he’s turning that setback into fuel for a breakout season.
Schilder was a promising contributor on last year’s junior varsity team, logging solid minutes and showing flashes of potential as a versatile guard. But just weeks after the final buzzer of the 2024–25 season, a freak accident off the court left him with a broken arm damaged face.
“It happened right when I thought I was done for the year,” Schilder said. “I went from celebrating the season to rehab in a matter of days.”
For months, Schilder couldn’t dribble, shoot, or even lift a ball. Instead of sulking, he stayed locked in watching films, studying plays, and strengthening his legs and core to be stronger than what he was last season.
“I couldn’t use my arm, but I could still train my mind and my body,” he explained. “I told myself this injury was just a detour, not a dead end.”
When doctors finally cleared him this fall, Schilder hit the gym like a man on a mission. He’s been first in the weight room, last to leave practice, and a regular at open gym sessions. Coaches have seen the transformation.

“He came back leaner, quicker, and way more explosive,” said JV assistant coach Blake. “The injury didn’t break him, it rebuilt him.”
Schilder’s goal this season? Simple: dominate. He wants to be the player opponents game-plan around whether it’s draining threes, blowing by defenders, or anchoring the press.
“Last year I was learning,” he said. “This year, I’m here to lead.”
His teammates feel the energy. “Connor’s different now,” said sophomore forward Brox Rollo. “He plays like every possession is personal.”
As tryouts wrap up and the season opener approaches, one thing is clear: Connor Schilder isn’t just back he’s better. Shadow Ridge fans should keep their eyes on No.16, he is coming to dominate for the rest of his high school career and show everybody that he means business. Schilder is tired of being doubted and is going to show everyone why they should’t doubt him.
