A new club at Shadow Ridge High School is giving students the opportunity to explore creativity through typography and graphic design. The newly created Font Club allows students who are interested in fonts, design, and art to come together and share their ideas in a welcoming environment.
The idea for the club began with a conversation about yearbooks and typography lessons. The Mrs. Mason explained that the concept developed naturally after discussing fonts and design in class.
“Mrs. Smith and I were talking about yearbooks and my whole font lesson, and between that we kind of discussed creating a Font Club,” Mrs. Mason said.
From that conversation, the idea quickly turned into a new club for students to explore a unique creative interest.
The main goal of the Font Club is to create a small community of students who enjoy typography and graphic design. While fonts may seem like a small detail to many people, the club focuses on how they play an important role in communication, art, and visual design. Mrs. Mason hopes the club will give students a space to connect with others who share the same interests and to express a hobby that they may not normally get to talk about at school.
Members of the Font Club will have the chance to work on creative projects involving typography. These projects may include designing posters, experimenting with different font styles, and exploring elements of graphic design. Students may also learn how to create their own fonts digitally, which could help them develop valuable design and technology skills.
Another important part of the club is that it is open to everyone. Students do not need any previous experience with fonts or graphic design to join. Anyone who is curious about typography or interested in learning something new is welcome. Mrs. Mason emphasized that the club is meant to be inclusive and encourage students to try new creative ideas.

The club is expected to meet once a week. During meetings, members may share their favorite fonts, talk about fonts they dislike, or brainstorm ideas for future projects. Students may also look around the school to analyze and discuss how fonts are used in posters and signs around campus.
Overall, the Font Club hopes to build a close and supportive group of students who enjoy creativity and design. Mrs. Mason and Mrs. Smith encourage students to give the club a try.
“Just know that it’s a safe and fun place,” Mrs. Mason said. “Come to have fun and be enthusiastic.”
