The Shadow Ridge High School Game Club stands as a cornerstone of student life, offering a sanctuary where digital and tabletop enthusiasts unite over their shared passion for gaming. More than just a casual hangout, the club operates with a mission to higher the gaming horizons of every member, fostering a safe and social environment where both students and faculty can connect outside the traditional classroom setting. By embracing a wide plan of formats, from high-stakes video games to strategic board games and card games, the club ensures that any individual who finds joy in play has a place to belong. The Game Club meets after school on thursdays in room 905 and is advised by Ms. Rebecca Cleveland.
“This club brings people together in many ways,” says junior Tyler Farmer.
At the heart of the club’s philosophy is the development of critical life skills through competition and cooperation. Leadership within the organization emphasizes the importance of improving strategic knowledge and problem-solving abilities, challenging members to think several steps ahead regardless of the platform. Perhaps most importantly, the club instills a strong sense of sportsmanship, teaching participants how to win with grace and, more crucially, how to lose with dignity. This focus on maintaining a positive atmosphere ensures that the competitive nature of gaming remains a tool for building community rather than causing division.

“I love this club because it’s fun and it relaxes my mind,” says senior Abigail Zito
The gaming landscape at Shadow Ridge is notably diverse, with several specialized branches catering to specific interests alongside the general Game Club. For those drawn to the competitive edge of professional play, the Esports Club provides a dedicated platform for students to practice and compete in tournaments at a varsity level. This program not only focuses on individual skill but also on the intricacies of team organization and collective strategy, mirroring the structure of traditional high school athletics. For the 2025–2026 school year, these esports initiatives continue to gain momentum, offering new opportunities for students to represent their school in the digital arena.
“At some points I never want to leave,” says junior Tyler Farmer.
Complementing these digital pursuits are organizations like the Dungeons & Dragons Club, which satisfy a deep hunger for tabletop strategy and collaborative storytelling. The Chess Club serves those who prefer the classic, timeless battle of wits. Together, these groups create a comprehensive gaming ecosystem at Shadow Ridge that supports artistic creativity, technical mastery, and social bonding.
