Shadow Ridge High School is mainly known for its academic success and vibrant extracurricular scene, but among the Mustangs are sophomore and bassist Vashti Albonetti, drummer and junior Abdiel Acosta-Pineiro, and lastly, but never least, guitarist Brendon Shen and lead singer Tiana Arriaga who both go to Northwest Career and Technical Academy. This squad is making waves in the local music scene with their band, Hey Hot-Line! The fab four balances their school life with their passion for music, proving that it is possible to enhance both in the classroom and on stage.
The band was first introduced as Reminiscent Risk, but then it was changed to the public as Hey Hot-Line! Initially, Albonetti was invited by her lead singer and guitarist to play since she started playing bass. Then, Albonetti invited Acosta-Pineiro, and seeing no harm in it, he was interested and wanted to see how far it could take their skills. Their music isn’t like any other regular band. It is a mix of their favorite music influences with genres like jazz with a blend of alternate rock.
“Since I was young, I’ve always been musically inclined and making or playing music just makes me happy,” Acosta-Pineiro says.
“My family and culture have been a big influence,” Acosta Pineiro states, “but I also credit my favorite band “Snarky Puppy” since my playing style is really related to theirs.”
Hey Hot-Line! is quickly gaining recognition for their unique sound, blending various amounts of genres and influencers into catchy tunes that resonate with their growing fanbase. As a whole, their dedication to their skill is very evident and seen in their performances, where their energy and enthusiasm captivates audiences. Pouring their hearts out to every note, they never fail to create an unforgettable experience for anyone who has the thrill of watching them perform. Students, teachers, and other community members can support their band by following them on TikTok and Instagram @hey_hotline.

“Our first gig at First Friday has been the most memorable so far since the feeling of having practiced for months and having a big crowd show up was just unforgettable,” Acosta-Pineiro states.
Balancing band practice with homework and studying for upcoming exams isn’t always easy, but Albonetti and Acosta are committed to both their education and their music. They manage their time wisely, often squeezing in rehearsals after school or on weekends.
“I usually use a calendar to make sure I’m up to date,” Acosta-Pineiro states. “Other than that, I make sure to get all of my schoolwork done first then plan for the band.
Both Albonetti and Acosta-Pineiro goals for the band are to release an album or a few singles, and more future gigs as well. Their hard work and dedication are paying off, as Hey Hot-Line! continues to gain momentum and attract new fans. Shadow Ridge High School is very proud to have such talented and driven students representing their school.
