When people think of Christmas, they think of gift giving, Santa, hot cocoa, lights/decorations, but what about Christmas movies? Christmas movies have a magical way of bringing friends and families together, they fill people’s hearts with joy and nostalgia.
When people think about Christmas classics, which ones normally come to mind first, “Home Alone,” “A Christmas Story,” or the “The Polar Express?” To settle the debate, what is considered the best Chritsmas movie of all time?
Freshman Jaydah Glies stated, ““This Christmas” is the best movie because Chris Brown sings “This Christmas.””
Glies’ excitement highlights how music can make or break the holiday spirit. She enjoyed the movie for many reasons but because Chris Brown sang, it made the movie much more special. This shows how much a simple song can brighten someone’s mood.
Sophomore Halia Zimmermann stated, ““National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is the best because I like comedy and this dad wants his family to have a good Christmas but everything goes wrong. I definitely recommend it if you haven’t seen it yet.”

Comedy definitely plays a key role in keeping the holidays fun and filled with laughter. The film showcases a dad’s desire to give his family the best Christmas that he can even when things start going terribly wrong. That story is a reminder that sometimes the best holiday memories come from unexpected moments.
Another sophomore, Kyan Moye stated, “I think”Elf ” is the best movie to watch for the holidays because it’s so majestic and I watch it every Christmas night. I love watching the movie.”
For Moye and his family, watching the movie “Elf” has been a Christmas tradition for years. Moye’s favorite movie is definitely a Christmas classic and definitely makes it in the top five best Christmas movies.
While none of the students were able to agree on the best movie, maybe the staff can come to an agreement. Their choices might highlight even more of the classics and offer a different perspective of these movies.
Taisha Jones, a technician at Shadow stated, ““Home Alone” is the best because it’s just a classic and it brings mystery and joy and comical relief.”
Jones’ perspective on the movie “Home Alone” shows how different elements, from suspense to laughter, contribute to what makes a Chritsmas movie special and memorable.
The other technician, Nate Smith stated, “The best Christmas movie would be “The Year without a Santa Clause” and “Charlie Brown Christmas” mainly because it reminds me of childhood.”
Smith’s reasoning for why these movies are the best in his opinion really enhances how holiday films can tie people back to their personal history. Watching these movies takes him back to a period of joy and happiness.
The librarian, Lisa Williamson stated, “The best Christmas movie would be “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” because there’s a lot of underrated quotes that are hilarious.”
Williamson really shows her appreciation for its “underrated quotes.” This shows that she doesn’t just like it because it’s filled with comedy but to her, the movie is memorable for its funny lines. Like the other staff, this highlighted the diverse elements that make a Christmas movie special.
While everyone has their own Christmas favorites only two people agreed on which movie was the best and that was, “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Whether it’s through laughter, heartfelt moments, and cherished memories, all of these movies help make everyone’s holiday special and joyous. All of these favorites reflect the many ways people celebrate and enjoy the magic of Christmas. What makes a Christmas so special aren’t just the presents but the traditions the holidays come with.
