As the school year moves toward winter break, many performing arts groups are preparing for their seasonal concerts. One of these groups is the orchestra! Directed by Mr. Richards, this year’s orchestras will be performing their best pieces at the winter concert next Thursday, December 11th, at 6:30 p.m. All students and parents are invited and encouraged to attend. With each rehearsal, the class has worked to perfect every song, and each orchestra student has put in effort to play their part to its full potential. Dedicating not only class time, but out of class time as well.

Since their fall concert, the orchestra has been working hard and choosing the best winter songs to bring the holiday spirit to Shadow Ridge.
Sophomore violinist Anna Scow said, “Playing winter music makes it feel different because the songs are uplifting and joyful.” She continued, “Holiday music just brings lots of fun memories and happiness, and it’s so festive.”
Winter music can bring the community together while spreading happiness and preparing everyone for the beautiful winter season.
Scow added, “I’m most excited to perform ‘Sleigh Ride’ because it’s really fun to play and it’s very festive. It feels the most Christmassy.”
The Chamber Orchestra will be performing three pieces: “Sleigh Ride,” “Dance of the Tumblers,” and “Winter,” which features senior Aspen Stevens. Each of these songs takes the audience on a journey through winter with fast-paced, energetic melodies that showcase the beautiful sounds these instruments can create.
Violist McKoy Hackman said, “The hardest part has been the constant playing in class, which gets very tiring over time, and having to come after school for another rehearsal to prepare for it.”
Though really tired, students like Hackman are excited to show their talents on the stage. Their constant practicing is sure to pay off during their concert on Thursday.
Hackman continued, “We sound really good, and it’ll be fun listening to all of our different groups perform and bring Christmas spirit. Christmas gives a better vibe to it, and the festiveness makes you feel happy. Everyone is more happy and excited to be there during Christmas time.”
The winter orchestra concert will be a great experience, complete with fun decorations on the stage and beautiful music to keep guests entertained. It’s a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season and support friends and family as they showcase their amazing talents and hard work.
