Shadow Ridge High School is gearing up for an exciting wrestling season as the athletes prepare to hit the mats once again. The wrestling team, known for its dedication and sportsmanship, is ready to showcase their skills and compete against rival schools in the upcoming months.
Under the leadership of Coach Bradley Burton, the team is entering the season with renewed vigor. Coach Burton has emphasized the importance of both physical conditioning and mental toughness in his training regimen.
“We drill and kill the basics. With the new 3pt. takedown we are focusing on getting the first and last takedown in every match,” Coach Burton said, “We condition prior to and at the end of every practice.”
Burton expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming season. “The team spent a great deal of hours together in the offseason. They shed blood, sweat and tears together.”
A match that went down on December 3rd, at Centennial H.S. for the Battle of the Boots, where the team faced some tough competitors. This highly anticipated event did not only test the athletes’ skills but also served as a vital opportunity for the team to showcase their hard work and preparations. In the lead-up to the match, the wrestlers have been participating in several scrimmages, allowing them to refine their techniques and build cohesion.
In addition to their rigorous physical training, the team has also been engaged in community-building activities. Burton mentions how, “We run a fireworks booth in the summer, and hold a home tournament December 13-15 to engage our community.”
Parents and fans are encouraged to come out and support the team during their home matches, which will be held in the school gymnasium. The athlete’s thrive on encouragement from their community and look forward to a season filled with hard-fought matches and great sportsmanship.
Burton said, “Support from our fans is very important, the Mustang home crowd always gets our wrestlers amped up and ready to roll.”
As the regular season approaches, the community is encouraged to rally behind the wrestlers. Home matches will be held in the Shadow Ridge High School gymnasium, and the athletes thrive on the support from their peers, families, and friends.
Burton recommends, “To show your support for the team, Pack the Gym for senior night vs. Palo Verde in January.”
