Among many clubs at Shadow Ridge, Esports Club is one of the newest. Esports Club offers new opportunities for competition and community in high schools. Students in Esports Club have the opportunity to play video games competitively. These students practice and play together, and they have been competing in tournaments, supporting each other in all of them.

The advisor, Mr.Payne stated, “Esports Club is a club for students to come together and play video games at a competitive level. What most people don’t realize is that you can play video games for fun, and you can also be competitive in video games. Very similar to sports, you can either play sports for fun with your friends or you can play sports at a competitive level. Esports Club offers students the opportunity to learn how to organize as a team for competing in video game events.”

Just like traditional sports, Esports competes in competitions and has been participating in small student organized tournaments. The club helps students come together and meet new people, and explore the world of video games with others. The club widens students’ views on video games and shows them that they can play in competitions as well as in competitions and tournaments against others.

Payne continues, “The Esports Club builds a very diverse community. People from all different cultures and backgrounds can come together and compete together in various different video games. The goal of the community is to foster an environment that balances the competitive nature of gaming with the idea of team building. The goal is to not turn anyone away based on ability. We want students to learn and progressively get better at their respective fields, and we want younger students to have the opportunity to gain experience and become the future leaders of the club.”

As the club starts to get bigger and bigger, the students will be able to connect with even more students.

— Jacob Payne

Esports Club welcomes students from all different backgrounds and cultures to play and compete. The club is aimed to help students grow and learn more about Esports, and help everyone to gain experience and learn from each other.

Payne states, “Esports Club is in its infancy. We just started to develop the program so there is a lot to look forward to in the future. For now, my favorite part has been building this new club. It has been quite the process, but it is fun and I look forward to seeing how we can build up this club in the future.”
