Wish Upon A Star Sadies

Sadie’s Ticket Information

Sadie’s, or winter formal, is a popular dance hosted at Shadow Ridge every year. Sadie’s is an informal dance where the women ask the men using a funny poster board. It originates from the “Sadie Hawkins Dance” which was introduced back in the 1930s. Shadow Ridge’s Wish Upon A Star Sadie’s will be hosted on February 24th from 6-9 pm.

In order to attend Sadie’s at Shadow Ridge, students will need to purchase a ticket. Tickets are $10 and will be available from February 13-22 outside room 400. Pre-purchased tickets include a dance ticket and 5 festival game tickets. Tickets purchased at the door do not include festival tickets, but they can be purchased later for $1 each during the dance. If students would like to bring a guest from another school to the dance, they must fill out a guest pass which can be found in the front office.

Junior Gustavo (Goose) Crawford will be attending Sadie’s this year. He’s excited to spend time with his date and wear matching outfits.

“Getting asked to Sadie’s was amazing. As a guy I’m not used to being asked to go out, I think the poster board “proposals” are really special because they’re so personal.”

High school Sadie’s “proposals” are funny jokes written on a poster board, usually representing something personal. These same “proposals” are used for homecoming and prom as well. This year, Shadow Ridge’s Sadie’s will be carnival style. There will be food trucks, drinks, games, and dancing. Many different organizations will use the games as an opportunity to fundraise.

Every year, Shadow Ridge has a spirit week for Sadie’s. This year the dress up days will be week 2/20-2/23 and Disney themed. Tuesday 2/20 is parent trap/twin day, Wednesday 2/21 is Bikers vs. Surfers, Thursday is sleeping beauty/pajama day, and Friday is inside out themed/class colors. More information about dress up days can be found on the @srmustangs or @srhs_classof26 Instagrams.

Junior Cole Johansen explains, “I think Sadie’s is really cute. I got asked to Sadie’s with a really funny poster board. I think the customization of everything is what makes it so special. I’m excited to match outfits as well.”

Since Sadie’s is informal, most dates match with a hoodie and jeans. Sadie’s can be attended as a group or just as a duo.

Crawford continues, “I can’t wait to match with my date. I like how Sadie’s is informal compared to the rest of the dances at Shadow, it makes it unique.”
