The Sphere

The Las Vegas Sphere is one the new attractions close to The Strip.  The Sphere was built last year and is actually called the MSG Sphere at The Venetian.  It is a cool entertainment venue where concerts, shows, and other events will take place.  It also has state of the art technology to create the best experience.  According to The Sphere website, it has a seating capacity of 17,500 people.

The Sphere was first thought of in 2018, they started construction in 2019 and they had planned to open it in 2021, but due to supply disruptions caused by Covid construction was suspended for a few months.  Finally the sphere was finished in 2023 and it only took five years to build according to The Sphere website.

The Sphere

According to the The Sphere website it cost $2.3 billion to build, making it the most expensive venue built in Las Vegas.  The Sphere is 366 feet high and 516 feet wide, it’s the largest spherical building in the world.

Sophomore Riley Wolf states, “I think that The Sphere is interesting to look at because of the artistic aspect of the different designs. I also think that it is absolutely mind blowing, I can’t wait to see it in person!”

It is designed to captivate visitors with its unique blend of technology, artistry and innovation.  The interior of The Sphere has cutting edge audiovisual systems, they have high resolution LED screens, allowing for amazing dynamic visuals.

The Sphere

According to The Sphere website it was designed by an architectural firm called Populous.  They are known for iconic designs in the field of entertainment and sports venues.  For The Sphere they collaborated with Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp and the Las Vegas Sands Corp.  They wanted to create a one of a kind entertainment experience in the heart of Las Vegas.  They wanted to provide a unique entertainment experience for visitors and locals, to give something new and exciting to the city to make amazing and unforgettable memories.

Sophomore Faith Romero states, “I think it’s very unique in a way.  From what I know, I don’t think there’s another sphere in the world so it makes it quite unique.  I also think it’s something to bring more people to Vegas…There’s another thing people can see from the outside and also view on the inside.  It’s a good tourist attraction.”

The Las Vegas Sphere shows a multitude of displays throughout the day.  Some of these displays have been a pumpkin for Halloween, different face emojis, the moon, they also did a fantastic 4th of July display.  For the end of 2023 they had the count down on The Sphere.
