When thinking about the best home appliances, many jump straight to the kitchen to start listing off items, thinking of all the things people use in their everyday lives; there’s countless options to choose.
Even with all of the contenders to consider there’s always two competitors who fight for that first place spot: the old reliable microwave and the new and improved air fryer. Though both options are great, what do people prefer more?
Since the air fryer is relatively new technology, people have found great use in the appliance in recent years. The microwave has always been the “go to” appliance to warm food and late night dinners throughout the years.
With both appliances being desired by many, choosing between the two is a tough decision to make.

The best thing about the microwave is the fact that it’s implemented in many modern day homes. It’s something many people love and care about, and its place in the kitchen will always have a place to call home.
With a microwave, it’s much quicker at reheating meals since the job is done in literal minutes. Something as simple as leftovers can easily be put in the microwave for a minute or two and come out as good as new, maybe even better than before.
Another positive about the microwaves is how easy and accessible they are, with many typically coming with the purchase of any apartment, dorm, house, and even most hotel rooms, a microwave is sure to be provided.

“I guess a microwave is simple, it’s always there and you can really operate it with a couple of buttons, I think simple is better,” stated Jamal Brumfield, a senior.
One of the drawbacks, however, is that many report that the food is dried out and cold when it comes out of the microwave. As many people would prefer quality over speed when it comes to their foods, the microwave has received backlash for its flaws.
Students give the upper hand to the air fryer, that has a flawless performance when it comes to fully reheating frozen and room temperature food, giving the food the ideal crisp texture that everyone knows and loves.
An analysis of the air fryer’s internal systems reveals that it provides users with a convenient, efficient, and effective method for cooking food.

With so many positives, there’s always the negatives that may occur. Some do worry about the safety of an air fryer, and others are more impatient with the amount of time an air fryer takes to reheat food.
A downside to the air fryer is the maintenance it requires. Users generally have to clean every aspect inside the machine, the baskets and trays are to be cleaned after every use in order to ensure the appliance stays in top condition. That can always be a hassle to do after every use.
Another disadvantage to the air fryer is the additional expense a person would have to incur when purchasing it. The air fryer seems to be more of a luxury item in most households and not as widely used as the microwave.
Even though the two appliances perform similar tasks, the air fryer seems to win the hearts of the students at Shadow Ridge. Either way, with both home appliances, they’ll ensure that food will never be cold again.
