Recently, many students at Shadow Ridge High School have been seen with injuries around school. Many of them got hurt during their sports, while some for other reasons.
“I hyperextended my knee when playing soccer and I tore my PCL and LCL, and fractured my femur and shin bone during a soccer game,” sophomore Parker Buffington explained.

Buffington suffered a severe injury while playing in a soccer tournament. Many injuries happen unexpectedly, especially during high and intense workouts.
“I tore my meniscus from physical contact with a goalkeeper in a soccer game,” said sophomore Aubrie Bush.
Not all injuries are the same and they can happen in an instant. Bush also experienced an injury while out on the soccer field.
“I usually tell the real story, but it’s a really stupid story,” Dresdyn Curtis explains. “So a few times I’ve made up fake stories before to tell people that make it seem more cool. The real story is that I hyperextended my knee by walking backwards.”
Although they can happen during games or dramatic moments, that isn’t always the case. For Curtis, it happened in the most ordinary situation of simply just walking backwards.
“The best part about being injured is that I don’t have to do my chores!” Buffington expressed.
Of course they will always be small upsides to being injured. Buffington explains how not having to do her chores is her favorite part about being on crutches.

Bush stated, “If I could name my injury, it would be named Minis-Chris!”
Since Bush’s injury was a torn meniscus, she thought of a funny name that would work with her injury type but also be funny.
“If my injury could talk, it would tell me to get my butt up and start walking because I’ve been really lazy and just sit a lot,” said Curtis.
Obviously, it is hard on the mind and body of students when they get injured. Many times, they may want to get up and go back to doing their everyday activities, when they physically can not because they are on crutches.
“I’m most looking forward to getting to run again and play in my games because I really miss soccer,” said Bush.
Looking forward to getting back to what she loves is what’s pushing her recovery speed. She really wants to get back as soon as possible and wants to be able to be back to playing in time for the high school soccer season as well.
“Some good advice I would give people to not get hurt is definitely just not to be stupid,” Bush said.
Advice is always useful for those students when hurt. Hopefully we don’t have any more serious injuries here at Shadow, since there have been so many this year.
