Ever since Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream opened at 6180 N. Decatur Blvd. in North Las Vegas, it has quickly become a popular spot for people in the community, especially students from Shadow Ridge High School. Even though it hasn’t been open for very long, it already feels like a local favorite. One big reason is how convenient it is. It’s only about a 10-minute drive from the school, making it an easy stop after classes or school events.
To begin with, the fact that Handel’s is so close to Shadow Ridge makes it perfect for students.
After a long day of classes, practices, or tests, students don’t have to travel far to enjoy a treat. Whether it’s after school with friends or on the weekend, the short drive makes it a go-to spot.
Junior Alex Martinez said, “I like that it’s super close to school, so we can just hop in the car and be there in no time.”
In addition to being convenient, Handel’s stands out because of its huge variety of flavors. From classics like chocolate and vanilla to unique options like black raspberry chunk and blue monster, there’s something for everyone. The ice cream is rich, creamy, and clearly made with quality ingredients.

Sophomore Emily Rogers shared, “My friends and I love trying new flavors every time we go. It never gets old.”
The atmosphere at Handel’s makes it even better. Since it’s still fairly new, everything feels clean, modern, and welcoming. It’s a great place to hang out, talk, and relax, especially after a stressful school week.
Many students say it has already become part of their routine. Because of this, even teachers have noticed how popular it is.
Mr. Thompson, a geometry teacher at Shadow Ridge High School, said, “It’s nice to see students enjoying a place close by where they can unwind and spend time together.”
Overall, Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has made a strong impression in a short amount of time. Its close location just 10 minutes from Shadow Ridge High School combined with amazing flavors and a fun environment makes it a perfect spot for students and families. In the end, Handel’s isn’t just an ice cream shop it’s a new hangout that brings people together and adds something special to the neighborhood.
