Dual Enrollment Teaching and Training, also known as EDU 250/206 is an elective course offered every year here at Shadow Ridge, taught by Mrs. Pisciotta in room 314. This is a fun elective that students can take as a junior or senior, without any prerequisites or prior classes.
“The dual students are more focused, and often, more of them actually want to be teachers,” Mrs. Pisciotta states.

The dedication and focus in this class is highly recognized. Taking this class is a good way to continue along the CTE pathway and get college credit throughout high school.
“My favorite part about this class is how it is able to break down the beginning parts of becoming an educator,” senior Ashlyn Mitchell says.
Breaking down the basic fundamentals of learning is where it all starts. It is where everything starts in the education field and it is important to know how everything started.
“The majority of them are kids who’ve been with me since their freshman or sophomore year,” Pisciotta continues. “This is their third year with me, so it is a really comfortable environment because they know me, I know them and most of them know each other.”

This familiarity in the environment creates a strong classroom dynamic that allows students to feel comfortable participating and collaborating with one another. As a result, students are generally more willing to engage in class discussions and take on collaborating projects with their peers.
Pisciotta states, “The first year of the dual class, there’s two big projects, each semester. Your grade is basically based on one big project per quarter, but I give you a lot of class time to do it. There’s no reason why you should ever have a missing assignment or anything below an A in the class.”
The overall structure of the class is intentionally designed to reduce stress while encouraging responsibility. With plenty of class time and clear examples of what is expected of students, they are given the tools they need to succeed academically.
Mitchell explains, “It has helped me with my future goals in life with not only understanding the depths of teaching itself, but it also shows the ethics that will be used in any work force.”
Beyond academics, the course also prepares students for life after high school. Many students leave the class with a stronger sense of what they want to do in their lives and a clearer understanding of professional expectations. This is a great class for students to take if they want a GPA boost and college credia while still in high school!
