As Thanksgiving approaches, Shadow Ridge students and teachers are taking time to reflect on the things they’re most grateful for. From family and friends to daily excitement, the holiday season gives everyone a chance to appreciate the good in their lives and focus on the highs while forgetting the lows.
For students, Thanksgiving is about more than just food or time off school, it’s a reminder of what really matters. Whether it’s through family traditions, making memories with friends, or something as simple as a favorite hobby, students are finding unique ways to show their gratitude this year.
Hood’s answer shows that gratitude doesn’t always have to be serious, sometimes it’s the little things that make participants happiest. For Hood, video games are more than entertainment, but a fun way to relax and make new friends through school. Students don’t have to look hard to find things to be grateful for, the small things that represent them can be the best things to be grateful for.
“I’m grateful for funny socks. They make people laugh, and they make me happy every time I put them on,” sophomore, Eli Mora stated.
Mora’s collection of colorful and silly socks has become a small part of his daily routine, improving not only his own mood but also the people around him. While some find gratitude in humor and hobbies, others are focusing on what’s most important, the friends and family who they grow together with.

“I’m really grateful for my friends and family. They support me through everything and always make life better,” sophomore, Leah Jones stated.
Jones’s words demonstrate the heart of Thanksgiving, being around loved ones and being thankful for the support they give every day. Appreciating loved ones can be more than just family, it can be the people who make small but impactful changes in the lives of others.
“Other than family, something I appreciate is my students who make my day better and whom I get to share my passion for history with,” Barbara Speciale, Social Studies teacher said.
No matter what students and teachers are thankful for this season, whether it’s a favorite video game character, a pair of funny socks, or time with family, the thing in common is appreciation. Thanksgiving serves as a perfect reminder to pause and notice the moments and people that make life better. At Shadow Ridge, gratitude comes in all forms, big and small, showing that everyone has something to be thankful for this holiday season.
