High school is a time like no other. Like many other modern day teens, several students- all of which are juniors- Allison Brown, Calais Harris, Audrey Levangie, and Tanner Dixon take a strong interest in music. Unlike most modern teens, this group of friends decided to take their passion a step forward and have created their own band, called The Reefs.
The naming of the band itself was the first of many issues these kids needed solved before they could call themselves official.

According to Allison Brown, the lead guitarist and one of the singers of this high school band, “We went through so many names and we ultimately decided on The Reefs.
“The name itself is simple, as described by band members, but reminds people of summer, which is what the musicians wanted,” she said.
Today’s spotlight however, is on Brown, a student at Shadow Ridge high school, and more importantly, a member of The Reefs.
“I’ve played guitar for about two years now and I thought that starting a band would be a fun way to show our love for live music,” Brown states.
Previously, a little over a year ago, Brown was in a different band. But, as time moved on, so did the rest of her bandmates. They soon moved off to college leaving Brown with no choice but to start a band of her own, and so, The Reefs were born.
The Reefs first started at the “end of last school year” (May 2024). The kids got invited to play at a summer show and it was an immediate yes.
Brown’s favorite memory with her band was at their most recent show when they were sitting together backstage. Before they went on, The Reefs decided then was as good of a time as any to say a prayer hoping for success and safety on the stage.
“It was very memorable and I’m so grateful for them,” Brown details.
As for her favorite performance, their most recent concert also takes the cake.
High school should be the time that teenager’s like Allison Brown take risks and make memories doing what they love. Everything The Reefs have succeeded at came from nothing but their own hard work. It is so heartwarming to see these concerts. The crowd is always packed with friends and family of the band members making each of their concerts such a sight to see. The atmosphere is completely fun and family friendly.
