The “Pathways to Success” Camp at UNLV

With summer approaching, students who aren’t working or going on vacation usually have a lot of free time. A lot of students spend this leisure time going to summer camps. One of Las Vegas’s most popular colleges, UNLV, has 30+ summer camps that take place annually. UNLV’s camps are available for students in grades ranging from elementary school to high school. Many camps also invite new graduates to participate in their programs. Each program is different and designed to fit a specific subject. On UNLV’s website, students can search for camps that fit their interests and explore the options available.

Junior Kelsey Barney says, “I love UNLV and I go there for basketball games all the time. I think these summer camps are a great opportunity for students to learn about their interests before college or just for life in general.”

Students who currently take culinary or are interested in a profession with cooking might be interested in the Culinary Mini Boot Camp. They will get the chance to improve their skills with Chef Chris Lindsay, learn about different degrees, and much more. Some camps like this one have GPA requirements, but these are strictly high school level.

Students with younger siblings or family members can introduce them into these classes where they can get extensive information about a subject they are interested in. Camp Cosmos is a UNLV camp program that focuses on astronomy. Students grade 5-pre 9th can participate and participate in tours inside of UNLV itself, these students might be interested in attending UNLV when it is time to go to college.

Junior Liliana Arechiga explains, “I think that these summer camps are really beneficial. The culinary camp seems like the most interesting in my opinion, I think it’s great that students have the opportunity to learn skills with a real chef.

Are you going to participate in any UNLV summer camps this year?

The “Meaning of Life” summer camp will be on June 3-7. This camp specifically focuses on the meaning of life through philosophical methods and how it relates to education after high school. This camp specifically is for students who will be in grades 8-10 for the next school year.

Another camp that UNLV offers is the “Pathways to Success.” This camp will take place on June 24-28. It is for students who would like to learn how to manage their finances in future and is available for newly graduated students (2024) and grades 10-12.

For those who are interested in empowering women, the “Empowered Women, Empower Women” camp is taking place on June 10-24 for grades 9-12 and new graduates.

More information about the camps can be found online or on @srhs.counselors Instagram.
