The Teaching and Training II students and some of the Forensics kids here at Shadow Ridge went on a field trip to the Mob Museum on April 23rd. The Forensic Science students were able to complete a crime lab during their time and the teaching students had to choose a topic to be able to teach others about.
“We were able to get ice cream at the cafe in the museum and it was so good,” sophomore Emma Bierstedt continues. “The different groups of people were pretty cool to learn about too.”

The students who went on this field trip had a lot of freedom while still being supervised. In a cafe in the museum, they were able to get ice cream, baked goods, and snacks, after hours of walking around learning about the mob.
“I found the field trip really interesting and my favorite thing to learn about was the electric chair they used to sentence people to death,” stated sophomore Leah Jones. “I think I am going to create my lesson plan to teach about the chair and why it is important.”
There were so many different key events, places, and people that impacted the mob.
Sophomore Douglas Taylor says, “I think it was cool to learn about the mob and have some interactive things to do.”
There were certain simulations that these kids were able to participate in, such as testing out the electric shock chair, getting their mug shots done, and clicking on interactive screens to see different people and what they had to do with the mob.

“To be honest, I only went on the field trip to get out of school, but ended up having a good time because we got to take our time getting to roam around the museum as we pleased,” said sophomore Kellan Mitchell.
Freedom with supervision allows students to have fun while also learning but having a sense that they aren’t. That is exactly what they were able to do and they had such a great time on their field trip.
Sophomore Ava Poort says, “Next time there’s a field trip, I definitely want to be able to go because everyone seemed like they had so much fun!”
The students who participated in this field trip had such a great time and they really enjoyed themselves. Now the Teaching and Training students get to make a lesson plan highlighting at least one feature from the museum to teach to the Forensic Science kids.
