Many people have had the idea of opening their own business or the dream of becoming the CEO of a company. For many, however, those dreams remain just that, dreams. For students who want to turn those ambitions into reality, Mrs. McCoy’s Business and Marketing classes at Shadow Ridge offer a great place to start.
When students enter her classroom for the first time, they immediately feel a sense of warmth and acceptance from Mrs. McCoy’s welcoming personality and her ability to break down barriers with students.

Mrs. McCoy has been teaching for 25 years and is passionate about helping students learn and watching them succeed later in life. She believes that building meaningful connections between teachers and students can make a significant difference in a student’s experience at school.
Many of her former students have gone on to find stable, well-paying jobs, but Mrs. McCoy continues to expand opportunities for current students. She frequently partners with local businesses and workplaces to further enhance the education and real-world experiences of her classes.
Mrs. McCoy teaches introductory courses that focus on the principles of business and marketing. Her advanced classes are designed for more experienced students and explore these topics in greater depth through hands-on learning.
One of the most popular aspects of the program is the student store, which operates during lunch. In this course, Mrs. McCoy takes a hands-on approach as students take on roles similar to employees running the store. She believes that exposure and real-world practice are some of the best ways to learn a new subject, especially for students interested in future careers in business.
Mrs. McCoy also works to bring unique experiences to Shadow Ridge by partnering with popular food companies. Recently, she collaborated with Cane’s for a special lunch event where students were able to enjoy hot, crispy chicken tenders.
She has also partnered with other well-known restaurants that occasionally bring food to the school, including Chick-fil-A, Makai Island, and Farm Basket. These partnerships give students a variety of food options during lunch and connect them with real businesses in the community.

Many students speak highly of the Business and Marketing program because of the engaging environment Mrs. McCoy creates in her classroom.
Mrs. McCoy is admired by many students and appreciated throughout the school community. She is passionate about helping others and takes pride in being part of her students’ journeys during their high school years. Through her dedication and commitment, Mrs. McCoy continually goes above and beyond for both her students and the Shadow Ridge community.
