Trying something new isn’t always comfortable, and there are numerous reasons why someone may not be able to get into the hobby. Justin Ward, a senior at Shadow Ridge is all about opening new doors and trying new things.
Ward felt as if he needed something to excite him throughout his days; he had always been into broadcasting and the news network industry ever since his years in middle school. He saw the high school level courses as a way to step outside of his shell and open up.
Since his heart has been in video productions for the past 7-8 years, he’s been able to open himself up to a lot of opportunities and people just by being a part of a class. He feels the support from not only his classmates but also his teacher and mentor as well.
It doesn’t matter whether a student finds his passion during his high school years or later on in life, broadcasting is something that advances a person’s career choice. Broadcasting is something that takes most people far in their careers. It is beneficial whether it’s as hobby or a profession, and video broadcasting and video production teaches skills that people can use throughout their lives.

“Video Production isn’t for everyone, if you think you can half heart it you won’t make it far. This class challenges you and it will push you forward, if you take it in and have passion for it, you’ll get some of the best high school experiences in your life,” stated Ward.
Ward credits the exposure the video production class has given him. He’s been able to meet some of his closest connections through the class’s networking capabilities, as well as getting to meet and talk with the faculty at the school as well.
His accomplishments and his achievements are what keeps him inspired in his classes, because his work is more than just a hobby, it’s his way of leaving his mark on the world. As Ward credits his teacher, Mr. Roe, for most of his development in not only his character but also his skills and talents that he’s developed over the years.

“When Mr. Roe came in to teach the class, he didn’t just fix problems, he also helped us learn from it and has helped us grow,” stated Ward.
The nature of the video productions class is more than just an elective at the school, it’s a space where kind hearted, genuine people are. The time spent in video production is priceless to its students.
“Just be yourself and understand the people around you aren’t going to like everything you do. Don’t let others hold you back and always reach high,” stated Ward.
