Shadow Ridge High School continues to nurture student creativity with a wide range of art programs, giving young artists countless opportunities to express their thoughts, emotions, and individuality. One of the options for students seeking to deepen their artistic experience is Advanced Art Study, a course designed for those who want to elevate their skills and explore new methods of creating.
According to teacher Christina Mazzone-Jackson, the course is intentionally built on the foundation established in earlier art classes.Â
“Advanced Art Study is a continuation of the program from Art 1. We build on the skills learned during previous art classes and explore fun new ways to create,” she explained. The class challenges students to stretch beyond their comfort zones while still allowing room for experimentation and personal expression.
Mazzone-Jackson describes the environment as one that encourages growth both artistically and personally.Â
Through collaboration, constructive critique, and shared studio time, students form meaningful connections with one another as they push their artistic boundaries.
One of the defining features of Advanced Art Study is the range of materials students work with. Mazzone-Jackson emphasized the course’s broad approach, noting, “We use a wide variety of media from pencil to textiles, painting, and everything in between.”
This flexible structure allows each student to discover and refine their preferred modes of expression while also gaining experience in unfamiliar mediums. Whether creating detailed graphite portraits, experimenting with fabric-based art, or exploring mixed media techniques, students are encouraged to think creatively and take risks.
