Every winter, right as things start getting busy around Shadow Ridge, the choir class room turns into a whole different environment. Instead of just running through songs, the class shifts into full preparation mode for the Winter Concert. For the past few weeks, the choir has been polishing every little detail. Most days are spent going over tricky harmonies, fixing spots that don’t line up, and trying to get everyone on the same page with dynamics. It’s been a long process, but the group says they can hear how much better they’ve gotten since the start of the year.
Senior Mackenzie Lee stated, “Rehearsals have been going well overall. We’ve spent a lot of time refining details, working on blend, and making sure each section feels confident with their parts.”
All of that work hasn’t just made the music sound better, it has brought the whole choir closer together. The more time they spend rehearsing, the easier it gets to listen to each other, and feel like one group instead of a bunch of voices trying to figure things out.

“The choir has improved a lot in terms of blend, confidence, and teamwork. We’re more synchronized and aware of each other now.” She stated, “Mr. Halvorson has guided us through every part of the process, emphasizing dynamics, and unity to strengthen our overall sound.”
With the concert coming up fast, they have been putting extra effort into shaping the overall vibe of the performance. This year’s program mixes peaceful winter pieces with more upbeat songs, giving the whole show a warm seasonal feel that the group has been working hard to bring to life. Choir is polishing small details, tightening transitions, and working to make sure every moment of the performance feels intentional and connected.
Lee continues, “I hope the audience feels the sense of warmth and effort we’ve put into the performance and leaves with a strong appreciation for the music. I’m looking forward to the moment everything comes together onstage and being able to share the experience with the group.”
With so much time and effort behind this concert, the Shadow Ridge High School choir is ready to step onstage and make all their hard work worth it. No matter what, they hope the audience feels the teamwork and excitement that has carried them through weeks of rehearsals. After weeks of pushing themselves and growing as a group, they can’t wait to show Shadow what they’ve been working on.
