The Shadow Ridge High school had yet another successful Shadow showcase. This year, Saville students were able to come during school hours instead of it being an after school event. After the assembly, which highlighted all of the performing arts groups, as well as tables showing the different clubs, sports, and activities Shadow has to offer, students were able to walk around to get a brief tour around the school.
The Shadow Ridge Varsity Cheer Team showed a preview of their routine, the Chamber Orchestra and the Choir students performed Christmas classics, the band played their 3rd movement from their current marching show, and all of those things helped engage the 8th grade students. Afterwards, students had the opportunity to sign up for any clubs and or activities that interested them based on what they saw.
A sophomore on the Shadow Ridge Varsity Cheer Team, Addi Hales stated, “It was really fun, I loved getting to show the eighth graders our school. I talked to a few of the eighth graders who were interested in trying out for the team and they seemed pretty excited.”
Throughout the years, the event has been held after school because of time conflicts. A few years back, Shadow Ridge was attempting the Shadow Showcase during school hours but before middle school students could even get on the bus, there was a lockdown at Shadow which canceled the event. This year, staff knew they needed to do the assembly in November because of magnet applications being due in December. Both Saville and Lied Middle School were invited but Lied was unable to make it due to scoliosis screenings.
The Shadow Showcase was a huge success this year and that wouldn’t have been possible without the support and cooperation of the Saville staff and students as well as the support from the Shadow Ridge students and staff.
The Shadow Showcase wasn’t the last these eighth graders will get to see of Shadow before their freshman year starts. Students have plenty of opportunities to get a tour of the school and learn their way around campus with upcoming events. After the way the Shadow Showcase went, those students are already looking forward to joining the Mustang family and starting their freshman year.
