A book often considered the greatest dystopian novel is 1984 by George Orwell. The story follows Winston Smith, who lives in a society where everything, even life at home, is monitored and controlled. The oppressive government ruling the population is known as Big Brother. Winston despises Big Brother and dreams of seeing the regime fall. It highlights Winston’s experiences sneaking around the government and uncovering the truths of the past.
The novel is both devastating and suspenseful, filled with shocking plot twists and moments that leave readers stunned. Though fiction, many consider it a warning for the future due to the realistic way the events are portrayed.
“No matter when I read 1984, it connected with my life at that moment.” teacher Andrew Flynn explained.
