Just Serve is just one of many amazing clubs here at Shadow Ridge. Junior, Lauren Luth, is the vice president of the club, alongside senior, Jackson Luszeck, the president of Just Serve. Just Serve is relatively new as it came to the school at the beginning of this 2024-2025 school year. This club is provided by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and it is available to anyone, whether or not they are a member of the Church. They are all welcoming and don’t exclude. There is also no age limit; anyone who wants to is eligible for membership.
This is the first year Luth has actually been a member of the club, but she has been using the website and app to search for service opportunities for many years previously. The group meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month right after school. Luth first got the inspiration to form the club when she heard a speech from one of Just Serve’s older members.
“I wanted to start the Just Serve Club when the local representative for the Just Serve organization spoke about all the great things Just Serve does for the community,” Luth comments. “I love to help people and Shadow didn’t have a club dedicated to Just Serving, so we started the SRHS Just Serve Club at the beginning of this school year!”
There was no election to decide the presidency because when Luth and Luszeck found out they were both trying to start the Just Serve Club, they simply decided to help each other get the club off the ground and took the roles of president and vice president. As for activities, the members can pitch their own ideas, and then Luszeck, Luth, and Mrs. Ferre run through the ideas to see which ones they can realistically do.
Junior, Brynlee Stewart, another member of Just Serve, enjoys being a part of the club because of the quality time she gets to spend with people and how fun the activities are.
“I love Just Serve because I can help others with my friends,” Stewart explains. “My favorite activity we have done so far is making blankets for the homeless. Just Serve is a great way to do your part in the community.”

The whole goal of the club is to do as much service as they can through activities like trash clean-up, making blankets for foster kids, and writing cards for veterans. Just Serve tries to do at least one service project a month. As well as helping outside of school, the club helps any teachers, staff, and students with whatever they need. For example, a month or two ago the group helped the English department unload and organize a big new shipment of books they ordered.
The Just Serve has an amazing impact on the members, and it’s no different for Luth. She has found more happiness in her life every time she serves, which makes her want to continue doing it.
“I love serving other people!” Luth says. “It just makes me happy, and I never regret taking time out of my day to help other people because of the joy it brings into my life!”
