Prom – Secret Garden

The secret is out! Last Thursday, February 8th, 2024, Shadow Ridge announced this year’s prom theme, “Secret Garden,” in the Mustang quad at all three lunches. It seems that the majority ruled in the students’ voting polls, bringing something whimsical and enchanting to Shadow Ridge.

Shadow Ridge’s Student Council has worked diligently and meticulously to plan and arrange the potential prom themes, including its location, which they’ve announced will be held at Area15. To introduce this year’s theme, “Secret Garden,” to students, Stuco revealed a massive 13-foot-tall banner intricately designed and painted to reflect the theme. The captivating announcement spanned from the top of the quad’s stair railings down to the concrete, catching the attention of many passing students.

“This theme is much more exciting to look forward to compared to last year’s ‘Dancing on Cloud 9.’ Prom is always the seniors’ last hurrah, and I’m glad it’s something exciting,” stated Emily Grimes, a Shadow Ridge senior.

As prom is limited to just juniors and seniors, the senior class is always the first priority when tickets begin to go on sale, ensuring that every senior who wants to attend their last prom has the chance to.

Senior Hailey Richer stated, “I never really go to the dances at school like prom or homecoming because why spend lots of money for a theme that doesn’t interest you? But, this will be my last prom, and I am imagining all the cute dresses I could wear that would match the theme. I think I am actually going to go this time.”

Prom is the time of year that puts students’ planning and organizing skills to the test – from dinner reservations to dresses; prom is not a last-minute event.

Junior Karah Johnson said, “I am so excited that I can go to prom this year! When I heard the theme would be ‘Secret Garden,’ I immediately knew what I wanted to wear. I like to hand-alter my clothes for their own unique touch. I think I am going to wear my old lavender homecoming dress and redesign it to look like a completely different styled dress. Maybe I will add some butterfly accent pieces to stand out even more.”

Throughout Mustang history, the DJ’s music lineup has been the deciding factor for the success of prom.

Senior Chloe Cabarles said, “Hopefully, the music is a solid mix. Last year, the DJ did a good job at playing a diverse mix of music ranging from rap to country, which made everyone happy. Prom is only ever good if the DJ plays the music that the students actually want.”
