Students in cybersecurity

The cyber security field is very promising to some students here at Shadow Ridge as a career choice. These students have a pretty wide range of opportunities available to them, such as the chance to take some classes and join clubs in middle and high school. Here at Shadow Ridge, Mr. Mann teaches computer science and cyber security classes to prepare these students and equip them with the skills that they need to pass the exams, and pursue a career in the cybersecurity field.

Mr. Lloyd Mann, cybersecurity teacher at Shadow Ridge stated, “Do not be afraid, just jump right in and do it. The only requirement for taking my classes is curiosity and an urge to learn about technology. The same thing is true for a career in cybersecurity.”

He believes that students who are interested should enroll in his class, as it provides preparation for the cyber security exams that can jump start their promising career in the exciting field of cyber security. Students planning to take these exams and studying and preparing on their own, should still consider taking Mr. Mann’s class to further prepare them for the exams.

“The three tests are all CompTIA industry certification exams.  They are A+, Net+, and Sec+ exams.  Net+ is Networking A+ and Sec+ is Security+ exam.  The three exams are integral to Cybersecurity, but are also foundational exams for any career in Information Technology (IT).  The starting salary for cybersecurity is approximately $60K to $65K,” Mann added.

Some students taking this class find the potential income straight out of high school as a good motivation to prepare for and take exams. The idea of earning this much of an income seems to drive students to learn more about cyber security. They see it as an opportunity to set themselves up for financial success early on.

Mann stated, “The best way to prepare for the exams is to take my classes.  Seriously, there are a lot of different ways that students can prepare for the exams.  Here at Shadow Ridge I recommend the ProfessorMesser website at ProfessorMesser.com.  However, there are study books and other websites that will help.”

Most people have access to these websites and study books at home, which makes it easy for them to study for these exams. While they can prepare themselves somewhat, Mr. Mann’s cybersecurity classes dive deeper into the details of the field.
