Sophomore, Daxton Bishop is an athlete who runs track and cross country for Shadow Ridge High School. Bishop is a promising athlete for the future of Shadow Ridge’s running programs. And he still has a lot of time to improve and become better.

“What motivates me to work hard everyday is to improve each and every day. I like to see my success increase, and better everyone I compete against. That is why I work every day in order to improve and achieve new goals,” Bishop states.

As a freshman, Bishop just barely missed the cut for track regionals. That has pushed him to work harder and harder.

Bishop states, “I have to keep working because I want to earn a position in regionals and one day make it to state. And I have to keep working hard because I know there are other runners working hard to surpass me and earn that position.”

Runners have lots of trials and setbacks in their careers. Bishop has gone through some of those trials, whether it wasn’t making the cut for regionals, or having setbacks due to injuries.

“I would say my biggest setback has been my shin splints or other types of injuries. Those injuries have held me back because they don’t allow me to push as hard in my workouts, because I have these delays and I’m not able to push as hard my improvement decreases.”

The cross country team just recently took the state title last season and the team is looking to repeat that. The team definitely had some fast seniors who are graduating this year but the cross country program is excited for the future of the program.

Cross Country Coach Flynn states, “We’re certainly feeling optimistic about our future. Having a good group of fast, young runners as well as experienced runners puts us in a great spot, but each season presents new challenges. We’ll have some work to do if we want to stay on top and we’re ready for that!”

Bishop has big goals set for this season and others are expecting big things from him. Bishop is excited for this upcoming season, as Bishop states, “track season is my favorite part of the school year.”

Bishop states, “In track, I like achieving my goals and becoming better over time. I like the satisfying feeling of putting in work and getting results over time.”
