The UNLV Dance Festival on March 15 marked a major moment for the Shadow Ridge Dance Team. After months of preparation, the dancers took the stage to showcase their talent, discipline, and creativity. The festival was the result of hard work, teamwork, and a love for dance.
Shadow Ridge Dance Coach, Edith Ellithorpe stated, “Managing stress and feelings of pressure during a time of high demand on mind and body. Has been our biggest challenge in preparing for the festival.”
The team faced significant challenges while preparing for the UNLV Dance Festival, particularly in managing the stress and pressure of the demanding rehearsal schedule. With constant practice and high expectations, the team had to maintain their focus. By keeping their ultimate goal in sight, they found the motivation to keep going despite the difficulties.
Ellithorpe continued, “The biggest motivation for the team has been continuing to visualize the end goal; keeping the big picture in mind.”
As the team pushed through the long hours of practice, their effort became more and more worth it. The festival itself was a big moment for the dancers, that offered more than just a chance to perform. The festival gave them a chance to truly showcase their skills, building confidence and pushing them to grow both as dancers and individuals.
“It provided an opportunity for the dancers to express themselves artistically, allowed for feelings of great accomplishment, and promoted growth,” Ellithorpe stated.
The festival wasn’t just about showcasing their own skills, it also opened a door for the dancers to grow by seeing others perform. Beyond personal achievement, the event also offered a chance for the team to connect with the larger dance community. The dancers were able to draw inspiration from others, while also building lasting relationships within the dance world.
“Being a part of this event sparked inspiration seeing the other performers and established valuable connections within the dance community.“ Ellithorpe said, “It was an honor to just participate in this prestigious event!”
Participating in the festival gave the dancers more than just technical experience, it gave them perspective and inspiration. Watching other performers and connecting with different teams reminded the team why they love to dance, and why their hard work mattered.
Ellithorpe stated, “I hope they are proud of their achievements and keep good memories to cherish forever. I hope they are encouraged by this experience to continue to strive for excellence in dance as well as in life!”
